This is one example of the gates that “guard” almost every home in Jakarta – from the mansions to the shacks, almost everyone uses them in some form. The sunlight was streaming through the plastic partition of this one, and it quickly caught my eye. Sometimes even the most basic of homes will have custom-made elaborate designs. They’re generally made by hand, so the handiwork can be a refreshing change from the fabricated designs so common in the West.Read more
