Random Thoughts

This post is going to be all over the place, as I’ve had enough caffeine to make a cappuccino nervous. As I was strolling through the insanity of one Jakarta’s mega-malls this afternoon, two completely different thoughts crossed my cortex. One – Being an expat (or tourist, traveller) staying in a country that speaks something other than your first language, you tend to have much more time to think while in public. Instead of picking up on the conversations ofRead more

Google Earth and Virgin Eyes

Don’t even bother to read this if you’re at work, if you’re getting ready for bed, or if you have a significant other waiting for you to join them. In fact, don’t bother reading this unless you have a solid 3 hours to remain here with your arse glued to the seat. Google Earth is the coolest thing since Flickr. The extremes in poverty and wealth were astounding – not that I haven’t been surrounded by it for three years, but generally not in quite a concentrated area as this. GenerallyRead more

Utata.org

A wonderful group of artists have given rise to a group called Utata. It was recently a Yahoo! Pick of the Day. This collaboration is the result of Catherine Jamieson’s rampant creativity. She is one of the most well known photobloggers out there – and for good reason. I highly recommend you take a moment (or an hour) to browse through her efforts. Some of the ‘net’s most talented photographers have joined forces to display their work both on utata.orgRead more

Better Days

It seems life has a way of maintaining the balance… I have a new puppy. Is it cruel to forgo the mourning period? Well, if I didn’t take the puppy the owner was going to put them on the street – and trust me, in Jakarta that’d be a bad thing. He’s probably some kind of Terrier, jet black, pees everywhere, and only about 4 weeks old. I’ll post an image of him as soon as I get around toRead more
